Joey Burkitt, one half of Freaky Behaviour, inspires with the Pro-Historic Funk Collection EP on Caboose. This is a diverse and intricate four track EP which delivers some of the old with a touch of the new providing something for all house enthusiasts.

Block Tha Sundown brings subtlety in layers to this tasty jam. Constantly evolving and ever changing vocals move in and out through the tune delicately delighting the palate. The synth brings us expertly to the drop which rolls us out to a sexy saxophone that draws you in deeper still.

Bump Goosin surely gets its not-to-subtle point across, building the tune slowly with chopped up vocals and synth infused delectability before hitting with a groovy plucked out bassline. Enter a synth that stabs ever so nicely building into a climaxxx that drops us back into the groove.

Classixx hits with a salty acid line, deep synth lines and a dubbed out vocal that adds a distinct flavour to the tune. This truly is two sides of a coin, moving between the two with a sophisticate dease. Light, airy and uplifting on one side and then driving down to the darker side where, “nobody is going to save you now.”

Its about that time for Mr Reals Bustout! Picking up the energy for this track Burkitt uncorks the bass groove, some spicy synths and a moody vocal line that combine into a delicious final product. Guess you will just have to giver ‘er a listen to see what it tastes like…

Salvatore “The Boogieman” Vitrano provides the next Caboose edition with Napoli Centrale. This EP is full of high energy, uptempo goodness, delivering a combination of big band and mo-town with a slight big room disco feel.

Sal Funk hits with big horns, some rhythm guitar and a funked up bassline. You can picture James Brown’s band heading off on a serious tangent with him dancing up a storm while rocking the house down to its core. A great jam to get any dance floor moving!

Jack & Cola combines a grooved bassline with some minimally chopped up old school mo-town vocals, wraps it in guitar and keyboard to deliver an engaging and engrossing house bomb. I got it!

Jeff Service gives us the Sunset Limited EP. Just like the transcontinental train this EP is named after, it takes us on a unique house journey through many differing landscapes.

This theme of this EP is true to the heart, feel good, house music. Whether its spoken word or big room vocal this EP offers a wide range of enjoyment. The common theme here is groove infused house music with thought provoking vocals that create a story that keeps the attention.

Each tracks message reaffirms that we, like house music, are complex emotive beings that strive for something. It involves decisions, choosing someone to love, enjoying each and every morning or getting out from under that rock, we are who we choose to be.

I was able to catch Wrex Ed for a few questions before the WMC Shenanigans start this friday in Miami. Their remix of Money & Houses “Constantinople” – marks the house music debut of Wrex Ed, with a follow up EP scheduled for release on Caboose Records this summer.

Wrex Ed is Glenn Giles and Mike Gillam – Based out of Louisville, Kentucky. These two lifelong friends have been making music together, in various forms, for over 20 years. Their music invites listeners on a journey through sound, music with deeply emotional tones that maintains an upbeat attitude; allowing the audience to connect emotionally regardless of their mood. However, the Wrex Education Project is nowehere near graduation. Look for more from these two, and find out about them, before they find out about you!

1. How did you fellas meet and how long have you been making music together?
Mike - We met by growing up in the same neighborhood, I think my first memory of Glenn is from the 3rd day of kindergarten.
Glenn - My first clear memory of Mike is him being pissed that I was stealing his socks in college.
Mike - One of my least favorite memories of Glenn
Glenn - Ha! From our childhood on, we ‘ve been in choirs. churches, garage bands, orchestral brass …
Mike - early 90′s hip-hop car karkoke
Glenn - That too. So, a long time. I remember MusicMakerV2000 days and finding out about the INTERNET together. Technology has really changed the way everyone composes. We started when all we had were our own voices and instruments. Now, having everything digitalized and at your fingertips, thats a journey we took together.
Mike – Name any style of music, we most likely either sang it, played it, or made it.

2. Where does the name Wrex Ed come from?
It stems from Greek mythology, and the tragedy of man – we made Wrex Ed an education project, to help people realize that you gotta learn to fall before you walk. It is a reminder that sometimes , your best is what got you here.

3. Who are your musical influences & inspiration – EDM and not?
Instead of trying to list all the names we would need to to answer this – we think it’s best answered by letting you know that all of the music we have ever been into has influenced us…. and still does. We have both been into almost every type of music out there…almost every genre has had some influence, the best and the worst of it. Same with EDM too – we have, at one time or another, been into trance, breaks, d&b, all of it.

4. What is your Studio setup – Gear, Software?
Ableton , some really cool vsts, the Moog Voyager plays a big role, and so does the APC 40, with sequencing and improvisation. 1986 Casio VX-1 is killer, with the full Midi keyboard. =) Then, there’s the cowbell, the trumpets, a condensor mic, and some other random bits.

5. What roles do you each take in musical composition?
Glenn – Mike always mans the voyager during the beginning of the creative process, and we get pretty deep sometimes searching out melodies and synth parts, and then we collaborate for the most part on arrangement and editing.
Mike – Glenn handles a lot of the technical aspects of things in Ableton, and has a better overall understanding of where our tracks should go, or maybe , come back to.
Glenn – Mike has a tendency to yell a lot, in general , when we work on tunes
Mike – Glenn has a tendency to erase all my best parts
Glenn – !!!!

6. Outside of Wrex Ed, what other projects are you involved in?
Glenn – Mike says he isn’t involved in anything else but life, but he runs a few businesses, writes music under the name Mike Geez , is a talented although self-proclaimed amatuer graphic artist, really a one-man think tank extroidinarre.
Mike - Glenn has been a top-notch dj for 12 years. He has toured the midwest and beyond playing several different genres through the years; old skool/newskool breaks, hard house, soul house, booty house, jackin’ house, deep house…all house. probably more house than house. As a solo artist, Glenn produces under the name Unkle Funk and has a collab project as ½ of the Moogonaughts. With so many peers looking to him for guidance musically, no wonder they call him unkle.

7. How can people find you, any links you’d care to share?

Constantinople or Istanbul? New Amsterdam or Old New York? The inaugural release from label mates Rella and Kinsella as Money&Houses beg the question, what’s in a name?

The Original mix reaches back in time combining deep melodies with a classic house groove unleashing a delicious, vocal infused house excursion.

The Soulmates remix absconds with the vocal, chops and rearranges it perfectly. Giving us a trimmed down no-nonsense approach, which is sure to be a dance floor pleaser.

Rounding out the remix department is WrexEd (Unkle Funk and Mike Geez) who turn up the jack while pulling us 20,000 leagues deeper and give us a dubbed out ethereal experience to tickle your fancy.

And finally, the digital inside B cut ‘Glass Heart’ is another revamped classic guaranteed to pack the floor.

Make sure to check this one out!

Nothing comes easy. Pretty standard. More often than not, there is a silver lining to all the dark clouds you face if you keep your head down and work hard. The universe has an uncanny way of providing when we are given some kind of sign. A change of focus, some hard work and that’s just what we got from Reverend Mitton and his new EP on Caboose records.

Gimme Something is an absolute corker. A piano driven house groove with a classic vocal and late 60’s organ break to make for an elegant and involving house tune that is sure to please any and all of dance floors that it touches. He’s definitely given us some kind of sign!

Remember Who lifts our spirits up! Another classic vocal is the star of the show in this soul infused house gem, teasingly cut up before unleashing all of its glory upon us! Sometimes the best message is a simple one. Remember who you are! We are listening Reverend, loud and clear.

Bayou Boogaloo is a deep and techy journey, sparking the imagination by incorporating eerie hypnotic underlying melodies permeated by dubby vocals that add a distinct flavour to the overall aesthetic.

Groove is the name of the game for this EP. Get in it and don’t let go!
